SPECIALTY GRAINS/MALTS

We offer a large selection of malts. The largest portion of our malt/grain is grown and processed in the USA by Briess in Chilton, Wisconsin. We do stock some malts from England and Belgium. All grains can be crushed free of charge; as the grain/malt is ordered, please choose either whole or crushed. All malts are listed with their Lovibond value. Lovibond values run from 1.8L for our brewer's malt to over 500 for the Black malt. The higher the Lovibond value, the darker the malt.

Is it grain or is it malt?

All malt is grain but not all grain is malt.  Brewers use malt.  Malt is mostly barley or wheat seeds that have been place soaked in water and placed in a warm environment to grow.  Growth is stopped before the spout comes out the top of the seed.  A rootlet from 3 to 6 inches is produced.  Most of our grains have been malted (grown to change the seed into starch) then dried for base malt or further processed to create sugars then caramelized or roasted for specialty malts. The only grain that is not malted is the Roasted.
